Beckett hurls a QS in Game 1
2003 World Series MVP Josh Beckett, starting his 1st post-season game since his Game 6 complete game shutout of the Yankees in that ‘03 World Series, performed to the same level last night in Game 1 of the 2007 ALDS against the Anaheim Halos at Fenway.
QUALITY START – PLAYOFF STYLE
Josh Beckett showed his familiar postseason form, retiring 19 consecutive batters after a leadoff single. He allowed just four hits and ran his postseason scoreless streak to 18 innings. It was the first shutout by a Red Sox pitcher in a postseason game since Luis Tiant (who accomplished the feat in Game 1 of the 1975 World Series).
More on Beckett – he now is 2nd to only Christy Matthewson (four) with three post-season complete game shutouts. In 6 career post-season, Beckett has 4 quality starts. He has a 3-1 record in these starts.
